Identity is much like attire. You may own many attires, some are handed down from parents, gifted by friends & colleagues, chosen by the church, stitched by the school - ultimately, only you can decide what to wear. And if you accept identity as your attire, then consider love as a really great coat that completes the look. Love will appear before us in many coats - whether instinctive, taught, inherited or imposed. It is not only woven into the fabric of our everyday life, it defines the essence of our existence. The stages through which we experience love form a pattern that shapes our identity as we become ourselves. Love is the courage to believe in what does not yet exist; it is as imaginative as it is irrational, it is the force from which all smaller forces emanate - the primary mover. To love is to possess a greater capacity to imagine because in order to love, one must step across the boundaries of one's own self. As love matures, perception expands. The closer we move towards perfected love, the more the mind becomes capable of imagining the infinite. There comes a time in every life where the burden of introspection must be faced if identity is to be reclaimed. Some of us try and fail, some of us try and succeed, some of us are too busy serving expectations we did not choose. For the artiste whose intention is to reach another's heart, this passage is certainly unavoidable. Only by confronting one's own heart can one hope to reach the heart of another. These are proof of my consequences: the consequence of my greed in reaching beyond orthodoxy in search of answers, the consequence of longing to reach the heart of another, of a persistent desire to be heard, the consequence of wanting what reason has already refused, the consequence of a voice that will not be silenced. I want to reach the top of the ocean. I want to defeat the ghost of fate.
